The Mountain View House

An open, flowing interior was the primary design focus for Mountain View House with guest rooms for children and grandchildren to visit comfortably. The clients chose quality over quantity – beautiful materials and design details within a modestly sized home.

A modern variation of the “dog trot” house, a style common throughout the Southeast during the 19th century, was created for Mountain View House. Design considerations were strongly influenced by the natural setting and topography, careful regard to orientation for light, sun, wind, and the amazing views. Respect for context in the historic district where it is located was essential in appropriate use of materials, size, and scale. Though the creative process revolved around the clients’ practical needs and requirements, special attention was given to that elusive quality: their dreams.

The Blue Ridge Mountains to the west make this a perfect place to relax and watch sunsets.
